Design Services

This is about more than blinds.

We work with every room in our clients' homes. From the family room to the bedroom, we design custom solutions to make your house reflect your design aesthetic.

Drapery

Fabric panels add warmth and softness to a room. Our services include the construction of full coverage drapery that hang from rods in pinch pleats or soft ripple folds. Use drapery panels to frame the sides of your windows or close tightly to insulate and control the daylight.

Valances

This custom category encompasses as many variations in design as the imagination can create. Adding fabric near the top of a window can enhance the feeling of comfort and finish to any space. Valence designs combine shape, proportion, color, and texture to top off any room design.

Cornices

An upholstered padded box at the top of a window can add a simple structured top treatment. This is a great way to showcase a spectacular fabric or enhance an architectural detail in a room.

Roman Shades

Made from the fabric of your choice, these flat panels lower to cover your window or raise up in soft horizontal folds to reveal the view. Consider advanced lifting systems to address child and pet safety concerns.

Courteous and careful, our experienced installer makes hanging window coverings look easy. We know you will be enjoying our products for many years and want them to be properly installed and looking great. In the future we can assist you in adjustments or repairs for the products we sell. Barb twedt

Barb has been lending her creative planning and design skills to Brackets clients since 1999. Her intuitive sense feeds her ability to translate client wants into beautiful designs that enrich their homes for years to come.

Barb received her degree from the University of Iowa in 1974 and is constantly updating her designs by staying immersed in the latest trends. Prior to joining Brackets Barb worked with Redeker’s in Boone, designing showrooms, planning product displays and managing the window covering department. She also owned the first free-standing Pennsylvania House Gallery and worked with design and display for AY McDonald kitchen and lighting gallery.

michelle brower

Michelle is a respected professional in the Ames area design community. Her experience touches many facets of home design ranging from interior design services, including window treatments, color selection of paints and flooring, to homes staging and interior accessory shopping.

Michelle received her bachelors in interior design from Iowa State University in 2000. After graduating, Michelle worked for two prominent Des Moines, Iowa interior boutiques before joining Brackets design team.

dj lauritsen

Brackets LLC owner, DJ Lauritsen, has more than 35 years of industry experience with a background in textiles, sewing, and pattern making, as well as industrial engineering. DJ’s keen sense of proportion, balance, color and texture ensure a well-designed window covering solution, with high quality fabrication.

DJ’s individualized approach to customer service leads each of her clients to solutions they may have otherwise not thought possible and has never met an installation challenge she couldn’t solve. Her ability to translate client needs into creative vision, and then realize that vision through her full-service in-house workroom sets Brackets LLC apart from other window covering providers.
